Artificial Intelligence (AI) Experience Group Visit

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is all around us - from the headlines in the news to the smartphones in our pockets - but what does it really mean? In this presentation/workshop, Professor Lee Stemkoski, Ph.D., will demystify the hype and explain the core ideas behind AI. Students will learn about the mathematical foundations underlying the technology and how insights from biology led to a variety of computational breakthroughs, from genetic algorithms to neural networks. In a series of hands-on activities, students will analyze and carry out the step-by-step processes of simplified AI algorithms, gaining a fuller understanding from practical experience. Additional discussion topics will include the current capabilities and limitations of AI, how to use it effectively and responsibly, and predictions about what it means for our future.
This in-person presentation is designed for a general high-school (9-12th grade) audience; no coding is involved and no technical background knowledge is assumed.
